Openoffice 开发社区今天发布了一个让人意外及令人兴奋的消息，他们正式对外宣布成立一个名为 Document Foundation 的组织，同时还宣布建立了名为 Libreoffice 的 Openoffice 分支，( 这里是官方通告）。另外值得一提的是，这个组织受到了许多重量级公司及组织的赞助与支持，比如 FSF （自由软件基金会）， Google ，Novell , Redhat , Canonical, The Gnome Fonundation 等 ，而作为 Openoffice.org 商标的拥有者 Oracle 公司目前还没有加入此组织。
Ubuntu 创始人 Mark Shuttleworth 在此次发布会上进行了演讲，他声称 Office 办公组件桌面发行版的重要组成部分，Ubuntu 将会在未来的版本中搭载 LibreOfiice ，同时透露 Openoffice Fonundation 会为 Ubutnu 开发者提供代码相关的合作，以便使 Ubuntu 在桌面办公环境上能获得更有效的解决方案。
目前 Openoffice Fonundation 已提供 Libreoffice 的测试版供下载试用了，有 Windows、Linux 32 位、Linux 64 位及 Mac 版本，同时提供了源代码下载，版本号为 3.3.0 Beta。
